About the Designer

My name is Lindsay N. Lauters and I live, eat, and breathe design.

I am extremely interested in the way that human beings use tools, specifically computing technology, to better perform tasks. I strongly believe that effective graphic and interactive design supports natural, optimized human performance.

Personal History

I completed my Bachelor's in Science in Cognitive Science at the University of California in San Diego in 2005. My Cognitive Science education exposed me to projects in which I worked collaboratively with others both as group leader and member, honing my skills at working as part of an innovative team to put out products on a deadline.

While working on these teams, I made design suggestions based on extensive user testing and usability error documentation, and then presented both the encountered errors and user centered design suggestions in written papers, visual diagrams, and presentations.

Concurrently with my education, I worked at the Mandeville Center theatre in San Diego and as an instructional assistant. I was responsible for preparing helpful presentations and worksheets for students in a Cognitive Ethnography class, taught a weekly section for about thirty students, and held personalized tutoring sessions. This position gave me extensive experience with communicating effectively with a large group.

At the end of my assistanceship, the Cognitive Science department awarded me with a Excellence in Teaching award, the highest honor possible for an undergraduate instructional assistant.

After graduation, I worked for BusinessOnLine, a B2B web development company. At this position, I was responsible for providing technical support to clients, maintaining on- and off-page SEO programs, and IA design with a quick turnaround time. I also was responsible for writing multiple weekly articles for online publishing on topics relating to broadband Internet and online gameplaying. Here, I learned how to communicate effectively with clients and with other members of the web development team, as well as honing my design and computing skills.

Other Information

These experiences have prepared me extensively for a position in interaction design, product design, and web development. With my graphic design skills and experience interacting directly with clients to get a better picture of what they and their users need and want from their products and web sites, I will be a valuable, hard-working and quick-learning asset to your company.

In my free time, I enjoy honing my comic and figure art skills, writing plays, playing games, and slowly and gradually learning to surf on the warm, San Diego waves.
